Hola!

Wow! It’s been quite a long while since I last updated this blog. And I still received notifications that some people are still subscribing- thank you so much!

I have moved back to Indonesia since last July and working in the family business. Unfortunately, my field of work does not have anything to do with food. Although, I am utterly grateful to have the food of my childhood surrounding me everyday (and keeping me well nourished!). However, my new position has allowed me to travel a little bit more often than before. So, I’m excited for that bit and of course, trying new cuisines around the world. Hopefully I can post bits and pieces of my food findings around the globe.

Just a quick one, last November, I went back to Melbourne for a short holiday and I managed to make the most of my time while I’m there- foodwise, of course. So here’s just a glimpse of what I had while I was in Melbourne

Until next time!

happy happy. joy joy. indeed.

an impromptu catch up with girlfriends led me to this talk-of-the-town place in Flinders Lane. my friends suggested that we start queueing at 1130am and so we came but to our surprise, it was still empty!! we came just in time :)

looking at the menu, we would’ve ordered everything if possible but due to tummy (and budget) constraints, we finally settled on 4 dishes to be shared amongst the three of us.

first up is the crispy barramundi and green apple salad with caramelised pork, chilli and lemongrass – i’m not much of a salad person but this one is divine (and i dont use the word ‘divine’ that often too)

the crispy barramundi mixed with the chewy pork mixed with the fresh salad. major drool. and then we got the crispy quail soy marinated with sichuan salt, lemon and sauce siracha

these little gems tasted soooo fingerlickin-good, we literally took our time to finish them off. we also got the spicy corn and coriander fritters served with iceberg lettuce and chilli jam

and later that night, i was told that the fritters was completely sold out! luckily we got to taste them- very delicious! the crunchyness of the fritters combined with the crisp and fresh lettuce with a dollop of the spicy jam! YUMMY.

and lastly, we ordered the ‘son in law eggs‘ (yep, the one that Dani from Masterchef wowed the judges with) – the soft-boiled eggs meets the gooey, sweet and a bit sour sauce. MORE YUMMYNESS.

and with that, my friends, is the end of our quest at Chin Chin. i can go on about how delicious and delightful and wonderful their dishes are but i just want to say that these dishes were doubly delicious because they were enjoyed (or, should i say, devoured) amongst friends over chatter and laughter. needless to say, tummy was indeed very happy that day.

and to top it off, we went for a little dessert over at Little Cupcakes – more chatter and laughter ensues :)

HAPPY HAPPY. JOY JOY.

Mocha Jo’s Burgers!

if you watched the epic Heston episode on Masterchef Australia the other day, it is almost impossible for you not to crave for burgers. and if by any chance you have no idea what i’m talking about – well, THE Heston Bluementhal ‘dropped by’ the Masterchef kitchen last night and presented a ‘burger & fries’ dish. no tricks. just burger and chips, the Heston way, featuring brioche as burgers buns and triple cooked homemade chips. genius is the best way to describe it.

anyhoo, the following burgers might not be as mind blowing as Heston’s but it is as delicious as burgers can be. the buns were crusty and the patty was juicy! and the chips were crunchy too! – best enjoyed over a gossip session with friends :p

Beef Burger

made from 100% prime beef pattie with fresh tomato, melted tasty cheese, lettuce leaves, onion jam, chunky chips, house mayonnaise, this is Mocha Jo’s Beef Burger

and also, the chicken burger – mustard marinated chicken, avocado salsa, sundried tomatoes, lettuce, spanish onion, melted tasty cheese, chunky chips, and house mayonnaise

Chicken Burger

apologies for the non-close up picture of the chicken burger :( however, as consolation, here’s an innard shot of the juicy beef burger! warning – drooling may occur :p

innard beef burger ftw!
